The OP results have now been released in Queensland. For some, the results may be disappointing if they are not the results they were hoping for. However, it’s not all over! There are many options and university is still within reach, as are many great careers.
For example, did you know that a Certificate III level qualification equates to an OP 15, and that a Certificate IV is an OP equivalent of 12? Additionally, many universities award credit towards a degree of up to four subjects for a Certificate IV qualification. A diploma qualification can enable students to gain up to one year’s credit towards a degree, depending on the course selected.
Sejumi Institute of Further Education provides several pathways to further study, including a Transition Program. This program is designed to assist students, who did not do an OP to enter university, to gain solid study skills. It is also useful to upgrade a lower OP to a higher OP equivalent. During the program, students develop more skills for success at university and in the workplace. This includes skills in how to use a computer effectively, how to manage time efficiently, how to source information, and how to correctly cite the sources. Sejumi Institute also embeds a number of essential skills that are commonly required by employers, thereby boosting employment opportunities.
Diploma programs with credit towards university degrees
Additionally, Sejumi has a variety of new programs commencing in 2018. These programs are at diploma level and are designed to enable students to attend classes early in the week while working on a part-time basis. The new qualifications are available in a face-to-face format in Cairns, and include: the Diploma of Event Management (SIT50316), Diploma of Marketing and Communication (BSB52415) and a Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management (SIT50116). Sejumi even offers double diplomas, providing even more skills and knowledge for 2018.
Subsidies for fees – making vocational pathways a viable alternative
Financially, several of the diplomas are subsidised by the Queensland Government under the Higher Level Skills subsidy. The Certificate III in Tourism (SIT30116), which is part of the Transition program, is subsidised under the Queensland Government’s Certificate 3 Guarantee initiative. Call Sejumi Institute to see if you are eligible. If so, you could save thousands of dollars in fees.
