Welcome to our January 2018 newsletter
January 2018 has been a busy start to a new year. Firstly, the Hawaii International Education Conference in Honolulu. This was followed by the first 2018 school holiday “Jumpstart” program. This week we relocated to new offices in North Cairns.
In 2017 we were pleased to hear that many of our graduates have been offered places at university. Did you know that a Certificate III level qualification equates to an OP 15? Or a Certificate IV is an OP equivalent of 12? Additionally, many universities award credit towards a degree of up to four subjects for a Certificate IV qualification. A diploma qualification can enable students to gain up to one year’s credit towards a degree, depending on the course selected.
Hawaii International Education Conference 2018
Our Director of Education, Julie Edwards, presented a workshop at the Hawaii International Education Conference earlier this month. Julie presented various ways of embedding traditional board game design into the classroom. Julie will be offering a series of workshops for professional development for teachers in various locations throughout Australia. This will be followed later in the year in the USA.

As of March 2018, Sejumi Institute commences equivalent Year 12 English and Year 12 Maths classes. Graduates will be awarded a Certificate of Completion outlining their grades and the content. Sejumi Graduate Programs
The on-line graduate programs are expanding throughout Australia with professionals from diverse backgrounds joining the various cohorts. It was exciting to meet so many people during 2017 who are looking at developing their skills and knowledge. The next Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) BSB80615 and Graduate Diploma of Strategic Leadership BSB80215 starts early March.
The Leadership Bootcamp is designed for teenagers to develop leadership skills. Applicants must be aged between fifteen and nineteen years of age at the time of application. Applicants can be enrolled at high school, home-schooled, or have left school. Participants attend one weekend workshop a month, where they work on developing their communication and leadership skills. The program is interactive and requires students to participate in a number of activities, both physical and mental. Between workshops students complete on-line activities and assessments.
Graduates of the ‘Leadership Bootcamp’ are awarded a nationally recognised qualification – the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB42015). For those applying for the defence forces, this is an excellent addition to a resumé. For those looking at moving on to a bachelor degree at university, you may even find that you gain credit towards your degree.
Our “Jumpstart” programs is a Certificate II level high school program centered around tourism. This program provides students with a range of practical skills for work and study. All students learn how to work with others, use their computers more effectively, and source and present information. During the last school holidays we started designing a Doctor Who presentation. Students designed handouts, PowerPoint, and a presentation booth. They also completed the ‘mid zoom’ and ‘hi zoom’ in the Cairns Wildlife Dome. To join the next program students should apply now, as we are only taking twelve participants. The Easter/mid-year programs do tend to fill fast.
Graduates from the “Jumpstart” program gain 4 QCE points, as well as a Certificate II in Tourism (SIT20116), which includes the RSA and Construction White Card. Apply here.
This week we moved premises to 330 Sheridan Street, Cairns North. Once the heavy rain stops we will have the signage added. We are located in Level 1, on the Sheridan Street side of the building. We have parking available outside the door on Sheridan and Smith Street. Students and visitors can easily park their cars while attending courses. We are also on the Sunbus route. The relocation gives us far more space and the ability to offer additional courses. We look forward to welcoming you.
