Diploma of Event Management
Imagine running an event such as the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games or Olympics, a grand ball, the Grand Prix, a Comicon Convention, wedding or product launch. Now imagine yourself in charge of the event, supervising teams of personnel, project managing all facets of the event from planning to the actual event itself. This includes catering, marketing, signage, the audio visual requirements and even security and general customer service.
If this is something that you feel you would love to do, then this is the course for you. Our internal students do work placements at various events throughout the region, as well as work on events at Sejumi Institute, such as Relay for Life, Cairns Festival and the end of year graduation.
Students work on projects from concept to final production and review in order to develop the necessary skills required in this role.
The online option provides you with the opportunity to study at a time and place that suits you. This provides you with the ability to balance family, work and study commitments. All students will be involved in discussion forums, activities and projects, where they will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge. The program focuses on key skills and knowledge required of an event coordinator or event manager, including: communication, leadership, networking and project planning.
It is essential that students enrolled in this program are employed or able to volunteer in several events, because of the practical nature of the program.
This face-to-face format is available in Cairns only, in our campus at 330 Sheridan Street, North Cairns. Class sizes are limited to allow for interaction and on-going support. All classes must be attended, due to the requirement to work with others in various projects. As mentioned previously students are expected to volunteer or being working in a related role that provides a practical application and of course, this will enhance your learning experience.
Events coordinators and managers work in a diverse range of industries including tourism and travel, hospitality, cultural centres, community and government departments.
